Thane Twiggs, Cargill, VP Derivatives & Commodities Compliance Group

Thane Thomas Twiggs is a Vice President and global lead for Cargill’s Derivatives & Commodities Compliance group. He also serves as the Chief Compliance Officer of the Cargill Risk Management swap dealer and oversees registered derivatives entities globally. Additionally, Thane is involved in regulatory affairs and policy worldwide for Cargill.

Before joining Cargill, Thane accumulated over 25 years of experience in legal, regulatory, and compliance roles both domestically and internationally. His career has spanned various sectors, including investor-owned utilities, power producers, financial institutions, and commodity firms. Thane began his career with the Idaho Attorney General’s office as a deputy attorney general in the Natural Resources Division.

Thane’s introduction to commodity markets started early on his family farm. He unloaded grain trucks at the local elevator and often found himself in the primary office, which had air conditioning. There, a patient office manager explained how the price of loaded railcars was determined by a combination of futures contracts and basis pricing. Since then, Thane has been deeply involved in commodity markets and remains energized by problem-solving and his connections with people.

In addition to his professional work, Thane volunteers as a translator for the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota, a meeting facilitator for SMART Recovery, and assists those who are food insecure. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish literature from Utah State University and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Idaho.
