Michael focuses his practice in the areas of energy, commodities, and derivatives law. He represents energy companies and commodity trading companies in a wide variety of commercial and regulatory matters with a focus on compliance and enforcement. This includes helping clients develop and implement effective compliance programs, advising clients regarding commercial and regulatory considerations associated with deal structures and trading strategies, and representing clients in investigations by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and designated contract markets. He also advises clients regarding compliance with the US Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) petroleum market manipulation regulations and federal and state laws related to carbon emissions, renewable energy, and green energy claims.
