Liam Smith, Optiver

Liam Smith began his career in the derivatives industry more than 17 years ago at CME Group, where he spent over nine years as a Director across product and sales roles, with assignments in Chicago, London, and Singapore. He currently serves as Chief Strategy Officer at Optiver, a leading global market-making firm, overseeing the firm’s strategic direction across the Americas and Europe.

 In his role, Liam leads market structure initiatives, business development, regulatory affairs, external partnerships, clearing, strategic investments, and execution services. He also serves as Chair of Optiver’s Political Action Committee and has co-authored multiple white papers on market structure across futures and securities markets.

 Liam is an active member of the Principal Traders Group (PTG), serving on its Executive Committee, and a member of the Security Traders Association (STA). He serves on the boards of the Miami Exchange (Emerald) and Nasdaq Private Markets, and as an alternate board member of the Members Exchange, where he chairs the Options Market Structure Committee. He also represents PTG on the CFTC Agriculture Advisory Committee.
