The Commodity Markets Council advocates for an open, competitive marketplace by combining the expertise, knowledge, and resources of our members to develop and support market-based policy.  CMC addresses industry issues focusing on agriculture, energy, finance, infrastructure, and transportation.

Currently, key areas of focus for CMC include ensuring that end-users are able to utilize markets for risk management that are safe, stable, and liquid; participating in the implementation of Dodd-Frank Act regulations by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC); and obtaining legislative and regulatory relief from burdensome regulations on commodity end-users.

Additionally, CMC’s European affiliate organization, Commodity Markets Council Europe (CMC Europe), is focused on the passage and implementation of MiFID, MiFIR, and other European and country-specific regulatory regimes in European derivatives markets.
